Cinematography - different shots

As I'm writing this blogpost, I'm also studying for my exam. Image analysis, or as I think it should be called: Film analysis. With my favourite topic... Cinematography!

Cinematography is about how a movie is filmed. What are the names of certain shots. We all know the close up. There actually are loads of other terms which I'll tell you about in this blogpost!

We'll begin with the extreme long shot. This could be a street with a "tiny" person standing somewhere in the frame. It could be anything as long as the people in the frame look "tiny", it's all about the perspective.

^ The long shot, the person in the frame, from head to toe. ^

The medium long shot, the person in the frame, from head to the knees.

^ The medium shot, the person in the frame, from head to the middle. ^

The medium close up, the person in the frame from head to shoulders.

The close up, only a head.

The extreme close up, just a detail, like an eye.

There are loads of other terms that I've learnt on this subject. I really like analysing movies. If you'd like more blogposts like this let me know! I would love to share my movie enthusiasm ;)

What are your favourite movies when it comes to cinematography?

See you soon!
Sincerely,
Anna
