Kapsalon | Recipe

Picture taken by my lovely friend Marit

I have mentioned in my previous posts that "Kapsalon" is my favourite dinner recipes to make here at home. I make it when my parents don't feel like cooking and when I have family or friends coming over! But what is "Kapsalon"?

Kapsalon ([kɑpsɐˈlɔn]) is a fast food dish created in 2003 in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, consisting of a layer of fries placed into a disposable metal take-away tray, topped with shawarma meat, covered with slices of Gouda cheese, and heated in an oven until the cheese melts. Then a layer of shredded iceberg lettuce is added, dressed with garlic sauce and sambal, a hot sauce from the former Dutch colony of Indonesia. The term kapsalon is Dutch for "hair salon", alluding to one of the inventors of the dish who worked as a hairdresser. The dish is a product of dutch multiculturalism, combining elements of dishes from multiple cultures. The dish has spread internationally in a relatively short time.
Thank you wikipedia!

SO, this is not how I actually make it but I will tell you how I do it!

What you will need

- French fries
- Kebab strips
- Cheese
- Lettuce
- Cucumber
- Tomatoes

First off I put some (baked) fries in my glass tray, whether these are oven fries or fries from a snackbar, it doesn't really matter. Next I use (baked) kebab strips from the super market, you can also choose shawarma, chicken or any vegetarian option that you like! Put this on top of the fries and then add cheese! I use grated cheese so that it melts more easily, put the tray under the grill and wait until the cheese looks like it has melted evenly over the kebab. Cut and wash your vegetables, I like lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes! When the Kapsalon is out out the oven, put your vegetables on top, serve it with some garlic sauce and ENJOY!

I hope you liked this little recipe! Have you ever had Kapsalon?

I hope you have a good day!
