Why I needed surgery 🩺

I NEEDED SURGERY TO GET AN OVARIAN CYST REMOVED | ANNA TWENTY SEVEN

Hello hello! In the past 2 weeks I have been recovering from a surgery which I didn't know I needed until a few days before Christmas. I had an ovarian cyst apparently and it was not a small one...

I NEEDED SURGERY TO GET AN OVARIAN CYST REMOVED | ANNA TWENTY SEVEN

Apparently I had been having this cyst on my ovary for years. It had been slowly growing there until I wasn't able to pee anymore. For the past year I did have stomach and bowl issues, but my doctors said it was IBS (irritable bowl syndrome) and of course I believed them. But when I got an ultra sound because of my issues past December doctors got worried. In three weeks I had my blood drawn 6 times and had several echos and a CT scan to confirm a big cyst on one of my ovaries. They were scared to take it out at my local hospital, they were worried they would have to take out one ovary and later on they said they weren't sure they could save my other ovary as well. I was scared but relieved when they transferred me to a specialised hospital. They told me there they could save both of my ovaries! This was not only a physical roller coaster but also a mental one. Suddenly I had to think of my ability to have children (at the age of 20). BUT luckily as soon as I was transferred my surgery was scheduled and I only had to wait for another week. Now I can tell you that everything is fine! I still have both of my ovaries, and my cyst turned out to be good! (doctors were scared that it would have cancerous cells but luckily I am 100% healthy!). Recovery is a long wait but I am more grateful than ever to be alive and healthy! The recovery time is estimated to be at least 6 weeks. I cannot lift more than 1 kilo for 6 weeks. But I am almost midway and proud of myself! What will happen now? I will share more about my story in depth in a podcast that I am launching some day soon! I can't put all the information and feelings that I had/have in a blogpost. And I think it is important to speak up about diseases like this, because my personal doctors didn’t know that cysts like this existed. And I mostly certainly didn't! By sharing my story I hope to bring awareness, to listen to your own body and to shed light on ovarian cysts so that it all can be discovered sooner in the future!

Thank you for reading!
See you soon!

Sincerely,
Anna
